Event 2 Wrap-up

event2huddle

Event 2 required a long trip to Rock Hill, SC as Interstate 40 was closed due to rock slides happening over East Tennessee. Match 1 saw Clemson off to a fast start, scoring 6 points in the half.  The Vols managed to score a few points in the second half, yet still fell short with a final score Clemson 8- UT 5.

The second match of the day pitted the Vols against Liberty. Both teams battled hard in the first half with 4 long points, ending at halftime with a score of 2-2. In the second half the Vols offense came together to score 3 more points, holding Liberty to only 1 point in the half. UT was able to control the clock and hold the match to a low scoring 5-3, bringing them to victory.

Due to time constrains and Fall daylight hours match 3 had to be rescheduled until the Spring. The Vols will continue to practice in the Fall working on shooting and teamwork skills. After a long Christmas break, the Vols will once again begin the practice schedule as they prepare for Spring Event 3 and Nationals. Event 3 will be held on the campus of Liberty University in the Spring, likely in March. Keep checking UTpaintball.com for updates!

Progress at all levels…

classAA

October 3rd saw the UT 5-man team traveling to Mississippi to compete against 10 other teams int he first Southeasern Class AA event of the 2009-2010 season. While UT didn’t make it to the finals, they did manage to win 3 games and accomplish something much more important…

For many at the event, this was their first time playing tournaments, or even organized paintball. This event signifies the evolution of the club, as new and semi-experienced players alike have a chance to compete and learn in order to improve skills, decision making, and teamwork.

The University of Tennessee Paintball Club would like to extend a big congratulations to all those who competed in Class AA over the October 3rd weekend. The team showed composure, heart, and hustle as they represented the Vols in there conference. There is no doubt that the club has a bright future, thanks to the hard work, long hours, and passion demonstrated by those who competed in Class AA October 3rd.

Traffic was light as the Vols headed to Greensboro, NC Friday night. After a short nights rest, UT began the day with a match against newcomer Clemson Tigers. The match was was back and forth in the first half, but UT pulled away early in the second half to win 9-4. Match two found the Vols playing the Virginia Tech Hokies. The match was tied in the opening minutes, but UT was able to turn a 2 point lead at halftime into a 5 point lead at the end of regulation to defeat the Hokies 9-4.

The final match of the day pitted the Vols against Liberty University. This proved to be the most contested match of the day for either team. UT took a one point lead after a heated first half. The second half found Liberty up two points with only 4 minutes left in the match. The Vols were able to engineer a comeback to tie the Flames at the end of regulation. In the sudden death overtime three Vols were eliminated early, but a major penalty called on Liberty gave the Vols the final point to win the match 7-6.

UT would like to thank PBC Greensboro, Chris Rael, The NCPA, and everyone else who made this great event possible.
